Pool Noodle Stamped Owl Craft Tutorial

A childrens owl craft made with orange painted circles and googly eyes on black paper, surrounded by markers, a stamp tool, a book titled Little Owls Night, and the text @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS.

Creative art projects like this pool noodle stamped owl craft are a great way for kids to explore their creativity. This process art activity is perfect for little hands, bringing the magic of nighttime woodland scenes to life right at your craft table.

Using simple household items and craft supplies, you can guide kids through creating textured, colorful owls set against a starry night sky. This tutorial will walk you through the materials needed and the step-by-step instructions. Happy crafting, my friends!

Materials You Will Need

Gathering your supplies ahead of time keeps the crafting process smooth and enjoyable. You likely have most of these items hiding in your craft bin.

  • Dark construction paper: Black or dark gray works best for a nighttime background.
  • A pool noodle slice: Cut a standard pool noodle into a 2-inch thick ring. This acts as your main stamping tool.
  • Washable tempera or acrylic paint: Bright colors like neon orange, pink, or yellow pop beautifully against the dark paper.
  • A paper plate: Use this as your paint palette.
  • Googly eyes: Medium to large sizes work perfectly.
  • Metallic markers: Silver and gold markers add magical nighttime details.
  • Craft glue: Essential for attaching the eyes.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This project focuses on process art, meaning the fun lies in the making rather than achieving a perfect final product. Encourage children to experiment and get a little messy.

Step 1: Prep Your Paint Station

  • Squeeze a generous amount of your chosen paint colors onto the paper plate.
  • Place your dark construction paper flat on the table.

Step 2: Stamp the Owl Eyes

  • Take your pool noodle slice and dip it firmly into the paint. Make sure the entire bottom rim is coated.
  • Press the noodle firmly onto the dark paper to create a textured, colorful circle. Lift it straight up to reveal the shape. Repeat this step, right next to the other, to create a SET of owl eyes.
  • Let the paint dry completely before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Add the Eyes and Beak

  • Once the paint is dry to the touch, grab your craft glue.
  • Place a dot of glue inside each stamped circle and attach the googly eyes on top.
  • Next, use a silver or gold metallic marker to draw a small triangle right below the eyes for the beak.

Step 4: Draw the Ears

  • Use the same metallic marker, draw two small triangular ears on top of the stamped circles.

Step 5: Create the Night Sky

  • Finish the artwork by decorating the empty space on the dark paper. Use a gold marker to draw five-pointed stars, crescent moons, or any other shapes you like.
  • Allow your piece to dry completely before displaying proudly!
