Looking for a simple, budget-friendly holiday activity for the kids? This adorable paper bag and paper plate gingerbread house is a breeze to set up. It uses everyday supplies you probably already have at home or in the classroom. Let your little ones flex their creative muscles and build a festive village in no time!
What You Need
- Brown paper lunch bags
- Paper plates (light pink or your favorite holiday color)
- Colorful circular stickers
- White paint marker (or white craft paint with a fine brush)
- Scissors
- Stapler
How to Make Your Gingerbread House
Step 1: Build the Roof
Cut your paper plate straight down the middle to create two equal halves. Take one half and let the kids decorate it with colorful circular stickers. These stickers act as the sweet, colorful candies resting on top of the roof.
Step 2: Frost the House
Lay the brown paper bag flat on your table. Use the white paint marker to draw your gingerbread details. Add a cozy arched door, a couple of cross-hatched windows, and wavy lines along the top and bottom to look like freshly piped icing.
Step 3: Put It All Together
Once the paint dries, open the brown paper bag slightly so it stands up on its own. Place the straight edge of your decorated paper plate half over the top opening of the bag. Staple the plate directly to the bag to secure the roof in place.
Display your charming new gingerbread house on a shelf, or make a few more to create an entire festive neighborhood!
