Those empty toilet paper rolls you were about to recycle can become a whole herd of cheerful reindeer. This toilet roll stamped reindeer craft is quick, low-mess, and perfect for little hands during the busy holiday season.
In this quick tutorial, you’ll learn how to stamp, draw, and decorate adorable reindeer faces using simple supplies you probably already have at home or in the classroom. It works for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary kids, and it takes about 15 minutes from start to finish.
Craft Supplies:
- Cardboard toilet paper roll: This becomes your circle stamp.
- Paint in brown: Washable kids’ paint or acrylic both work.
- Paper plate: For holding the paint.
- Brown kraft paper: Feel feel to change up the color though!
- Black Sharpie fine-point marker: For drawing antlers and eyes.
- Red dot stickers: For those famous shiny noses.
- Googly eyes (optional): For extra silly personality.
Directions:
Step 1: Set up your paint
Squeeze a small pool of brown paint onto the paper plate. Spread it into a thin, even layer so the roll picks up just enough paint.
Step 2: Dip the toilet roll
Hold the toilet roll upright and press one end into the paint. Lift it straight up and check that the whole rim is coated.
Step 3: Stamp the reindeer heads
Press the painted end firmly onto your paper, then lift it straight up. You’ll see a perfect circle, which is your first reindeer head.
- Re-dip after every one or two stamps for crisp outlines.
- Spread the circles out so there’s room for antlers above each one.
- Want oval faces instead? Gently squeeze the roll before stamping.
Step 4: Let the paint dry
Give the circles about 10 minutes to dry. This is a great moment to read a holiday story or clean up the paint.
Step 5: Draw the antlers
Use the black Sharpie to draw two antlers on top of each circle. Simple V-shapes, branchy twigs, or tall, wiggly antlers all look wonderful.
Every child’s reindeer will look different, and that’s part of the charm.
Step 6: Add the eyes
Draw two dots inside each circle for eyes. For older kids, glue on googly eyes instead for a goofy, wide-eyed look.
Step 7: Give each reindeer a red nose
Peel a red dot sticker and press it into the center of each face. Prefer some sparkle? Glue on a red rhinestone instead.
Peeling stickers is fantastic fine motor practice for little ones.
Go ahead and add any other embellishments you see fit & display proudly for ALL to see!
