A paper plate decorated as a colorful peacock with blue, purple, and green painted fingerprints for feathers, a blue paper body, large googly eyes, and a yellow beak. @GLUETOMYCRAFTS watermark is visible.

Crafting with little ones should be simple and fun. We love sharing projects that let kids use their hands to create something special, and this paper plate and fingerprint peacock craft checks all the boxes.

It requires just a few basic supplies and gives children a wonderful sensory experience. They get to dip their fingers in paint and build a bright, colorful bird with very little setup time.

Craft Supplies:

  • White paper plates – 1 per craft
  • Washable paints (blue, green, and purple)
  • Blue cardstock or thick construction paper
  • Small scrap of yellow paper
  • 2 large googly eyes
  • School glue
  • Stapler
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. First things first – pour small drops of blue, green, and purple paint in small dishes. This keeps the mess contained and makes it easy for tiny fingers to reach.
  2. Next up – have your child dip their thumb or index finger into the paint. Guide them to press their painted finger along the ridged edge of the paper plate. Create an outer row of blue, a middle row of purple, and an inner row of green dots. Set the plate aside to dry completely.
  3. While the paint dries, cut a bowling-pin shape out of the blue cardstock. This piece serves as the peacock’s body and neck. Next, cut a small triangle from the yellow paper to make the beak.
  4. Grab your glue. Attach the two large googly eyes and the yellow paper beak near the rounded top of the blue cutout.
  5. Once the plate feels dry to the touch, place the blue body right in the bottom center of the paper plate. Use your stapler to secure the body to the plate. The colorful fingerprint dots will fan out perfectly behind the bird like real tail feathers.
  6. Finally, add any other embellishments you see fit and display it proudly for all to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
