Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to combine creativity and celebration.

Crafting with kids can be both fun and educational, fostering fine motor skills, creativity, and meaningful bonding time. If you’re on the hunt for a colorful, exciting, and easy crafting idea, this Puffy Paint Valentine’s Day Donut craft is your answer!

Packed with vibrant colors and squishy textures, this project turns ordinary materials into adorable faux donuts. Read on to discover how to create these delightful treats while keeping your little ones entertained and inspired.

Craft Supplies:

Before you begin crafting, gather these materials to get everything ready:

  • Donut Printable – from our landing page
  • Light Brown Cardstock Paper
  • 1/2 cup Shaving Cream
  • 1/2 cup School Glue
  • Food Coloring
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Small Heart Cutouts

Directions:

  • First things first – grab and print out the FREE DONUT PRINTABLE listed above in the supply list. You will want to print this file on brown cardstock paper. Print one printable per child.
  • Now you are ready to make your puffy paint which will become the Valentine’s Day “frosting” for the craft! Place equal amounts of shaving cream and glue in a small dish.
  • Mix together until well combined.
  • Go ahead and add a few drops of food coloring if desired {aim for pinks and reds for Valentine’s Day!}
  • Once you have the consistency and color you like, have children “paint” their donut in the provided printable. They will want to stay within the lines of the template.
  • After children are done with the puffy paint step, have them “sprinkle” on some loose craft glitter and heart cutouts, on top of wet puffy paint.
  • When done, set aside the paper Valentine’s Day donut masterpieces to let them dry completely before displaying proudly!
  • If desired, once the puffy paint is COMPLETELY dry, go ahead and cut out the donut shape & glue it to another piece of colored cardstock paper. This will give your craft a cleaner look AND it adds another step to keep the craftiness going. Have fun!
