Add some magic to your Christmas decor this year with this easy embroidery hoop unicorn ornament. It’s a quick and simple project that you can complete in just a few minutes, and it’s perfect for the older kids. So grab your supplies and let’s get started!

Materials:

  • Mini Embroidery Hoops – one per unicorn, any size {I got mine at Hobby Lobby}
  • Craft Scissors
  • Various Colors of Embroidery Thread – white being the most important!
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hot Glue Gun Sticks
  • White Craft Felt
  • Gold Glitter Craft Felt

Directions:

  • Before you start, let’s get that glue gun hot and ready!
  • Now grab your small hoop, the scissors and the white thread.
  • Go ahead and cut several long strands of white thread for your hoop.
  • Take one piece of the thread. Start on one section of the hoop {doesn’t matter where} and either hot glue or tie off your white thread. This will be your starting point.
  • Now begin wrapping the white yarn tightly, several times across, around and through the embroidery hoop, until it looks as “full” as you want it. Add more strands of yarn as you go {by tying/hot gluing them to the hoop} You will want to go diagonal and spread each “line” equally throughout the hoop. Some people might want it a little see-through while some might want to it really “white” and full.
  • When done, set the hoop aside.
  • Now grab your two sheets of craft felt and scissors.
  • Using our pictures as an examples, cut out two ears, the nose and a small horn for your unicorn.
  • Set those aside.
  • Now grab your choice of color in thread {maybe a solid bright pink or purple} for the hair.
  • Cut several strands of it, lay them next to each other and tie them together, in the center, to make the unicorn hair. Trim up if need be with the scissors.
  • When that is done, hot glue the yarn and craft felt pieces on the thread covered hoop.
  • Finish off the unicorn ornaments by hot gluing a small looped piece of thread to the back for easy hanging.
  • Add other embellishments you see fit {like a pretty colored bow or some glitter} before you display it proudly for all to see!
