Have you been looking for an engaging summertime craft project to do with your kids? I’ve found the perfect idea – popsicle stick parrots!

Popsicle sticks are always a hit because they are inexpensive, easy to find materials that allow kids to unleash their creativity. For our latest craft, we decided to transform the sticks into colorful parrots.

This parrot popsicle stick craft was such a success – it kept my kids entertained for hours on a sunny afternoon. The end results were adorable parrot figurines proudly displayed on our windowsill.

In this blog post, I’ll share the simple instructions for how you can make these parrots with your own kids. It’s a project everyone can enjoy whether they are 3 or 13 years old!

Get ready for a fun, messy craft session as your kids bring their very own colorful parrot buddies to life!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • School Glue
  • Red Craft Paint
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Craft Scissors
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Large Wiggle Eyes
  • Colorful Craft Feathers

Directions:

Things are about to get messy – in a good way! Lay down a plastic tablecloth or some old newspapers to catch any runaway paint, glue, or sparkles.

  • First grab three popsicle sticks {three per parrot} and glue them together to look like a triangle.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Repeat for each parrot craft piece you want to make today.
  • Once those are done drying, go ahead and have children paint their pieces completely red.
  • Again, set aside to let them dry completely.
  • Now grab your cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Cut out a red triangular piece for inside the popsicle stick design, as well as a long, parrot nose from the black.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Parrot – have children glue their paper pieces in place, as well as any other embellishments they see fit {like tons of feathers on top of it’s head!}
  • Once done, set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible.
