Today’s “sledding snowman” art project idea is absolutely perfect for those chilly winter months coming up! With just a pool noodle and some paint, you can create a charming winter scene that kids will be thrilled to call their own.
This delightful craft uses pool noodles as stamps to make the big, round shapes for a snowman and his bright, colorful snow tube. The finished picture tells a whole little story – a cheerful snowman with his arms flung wide, zooming down a snowy hill without a care in the world. Kids absolutely love bringing this happy little character to life, and honestly? You might find yourself having just as much fun as they do.
It’s also cheap and easy. You probably have a pool noodle left over from summer, and the rest of the supplies are likely already in your craft bin. The stamping is simple enough for toddlers. Older kids can add plenty of their own details. It works well at the kitchen table or with a whole classroom. Let’s get stamping!
Craft Supplies:
For stamping:
- Pool noodle slice
- White paint crayon
- Bright craft paint for the snow tube
- Paper plates or shallow trays for paint
For the background:
- Blue, light blue, or dark navy cardstock or construction paper (cardstock holds paint best)
For decorating:
- Black and orange markers
- White dot stickers {for the snowmen}
- Snowflake and small tree stickers
Directions:
Step 1: Paint the snowy hill
Start with a sheet of gray paper turned sideways. Use a white paint crayon {or sponge and white craft paint} to paint a white hill that slopes from one top corner down to the opposite bottom corner.
Step 2: Stamp the snow tube
Squirt your craft paint on your paper plate. Dip your pool noodle slice into the paint and rub it around so it’s entirely coated.
Press it straight down onto the hill, on your paper, near the top of the slope. Hold it for a second or two, then lift it straight up.
You now have a colorful ring that looks just like an inflatable snow tube! For a bolder tube, stamp it a second time right on top of the first ring.
Repeat two to three times on the paper. Allow your paper piece to dry a bit before moving on.
Step 3: Add the snowmen
Take your white dot stickers and add three of them in the center of each pool noodle raft. This will create the snowman’s body.
Use a black marker to add two eyes and a big smile made of little dots. Draw a carrot nose with an orange marker.
Step 4: Customize it with the stickers
To finish off the craft and set the winter scene, add snowflake and small tree stickers all around.
Step 5: Sign and display
Have your young artist sign their name in a corner and add the date. Then proudly hang it up!
