Here’s your shopping list before the crafting begins:
- Large construction paper (for the background)
- One paper plate (this becomes your cauldron)

- Pool noodle slices (your bubble stamps)
- Orange, green, and purple washable paint
- A paper plate to use as your paint palette
- Glitter (any dark or spooky shade works great)
- Glue
- Black marker
- Scissors
- A pencil for tracing
Directions:
- Start by cutting your paper plate into a cauldron shape. Set it curved-side down so it looks like a rounded cauldron sitting at the bottom of your scene. Don’t glue it just yet, we’ll assemble everything at the end.
- Have your little one press their hand flat on the white paper, fingers spread wide. Trace around it with a pencil, then cut out the shape. This handprint becomes a cluster of ghosts peeking up from the cauldron. Tiny hands make tiny ghosts, which is part of what makes this craft such a sweet keepsake.
- Take your black marker and add a face to the tip of each finger and thumb. Two little eyes and an open, surprised mouth do the trick. You’ll end up with five friendly ghosts, one on each fingertip. Keep the faces simple and let kids draw their own for extra personality.
- Now for the star of the show. Squeeze dollops of orange, green, and purple paint onto your paper plate palette. Dip the flat end of a pool noodle slice into one color, then press it onto the construction paper right above where the cauldron will sit.
- Stamp circles again and again, overlapping them as you go, to build a bubbling potion effect. Mix the colors, layer the rings, and let the bubbles rise up and out like the potion is boiling over.
- While the paint is still wet, sprinkle glitter over your stamped bubbles. The dampness helps it stick without any extra glue. Give the paper a gentle shake over a tray to catch the loose bits, then let everything dry completely.
- Once the paint and glitter are dry, it’s time to bring it all together. Tuck the white handprint ghosts slightly behind where the cauldron will go, so they appear to rise out of the pot along with the bubbles. Glue the ghost handprint in place, then glue the black paper plate cauldron over the bottom edge, curved-side down. Press firmly and let it set.
