- 2 mini cupcake liners
- 2 large googly eyes
- 1 green pipe cleaner (chenille stem)

Directions:
Follow these steps and you’ll have a finished owl-in-a-pumpkin in no time.
- Paint the pumpkin. Paint the whole paper plate orange. Once the base coat dries, add a few brown vertical lines to mimic the ribs of a real pumpkin. Let everything dry completely.
- Cut the pumpkin open. Cut the plate horizontally in a jagged, zig-zag pattern so it looks like a cracked-open pumpkin. You’ll have a top piece and a bottom piece.
- Make the pocket. Line the two halves back up and staple them together on the left side. This creates a little pocket for your owl to peek out of.
- Add the stem and vine. Cut a small rectangle of brown cardstock and glue it to the top of the pumpkin as the stem. Then wrap a green pipe cleaner around a pencil to make a curl, and attach it beside the stem for a playful vine.
- Trace and cut the handprint. Trace your child’s hand onto brown construction paper or cardstock, then cut it out. Turn it so the fingers point downward. This becomes the owl’s body and feathers.
- Add the eyes. Flatten two mini cupcake liners and glue a large googly eye in the center of each. Attach both liners near the top of the handprint for a wide, whimsical stare.
- Give it a beak. Cut a small orange triangle and glue it pointing downward, right between and just below the eyes.
- Top it with a witch hat. Glue the little black glittery hat on top of the owl’s head.
- Tuck the owl into the pumpkin. Slide the handprint owl into the stapled pocket so it peeks out of the cracked pumpkin. A dab of glue keeps it in place if you’d like.
