Craft Supplies:
- 1 large white paper plate
- Puffy paint or washable craft paint in yellow and gold
- Brown dot stickers
- Green cardstock paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- School glue
- Gold glitter (optional)
- Baby wipes or paper towels
Directions:
A friendly heads-up: This craft can get a little messy when the paint is squished, so be sure to protect your work surface! The paint will also need some time to dry before you can finish assembling your flower.
- Start by folding your paper plate directly in half, like a taco. You’ll need one folded plate for each sunflower you plan to make.
- Unfold the plate. On one side of the center crease, squeeze 2-3 different colors of puffy paint. A few light squiggles of each color will do – try not to add too much!
- Now for the fun part! Fold the paper plate back in half, squishing the paint inside. Gently rub your hands over the folded plate to spread the paint and mix the colors. Some paint might ooze out the sides, so keep those baby wipes handy for a quick cleanup.
- Carefully open your folded plate to see the beautiful marbled design you’ve created!
- Set the painted plate aside in a safe place to dry completely. This may take a few hours, so patience is key. The paint must be fully dry before you move on to the next step.
- Once the paint is dry, grab your scissors, a pencil and green cardstock paper.
- Trace/cut out TWO or THREE handprint cutouts for the leaves of the yellow flower.
- Go ahead and glue those to the back of your decorated paper plate piece.
- The last step is the easiest – add several dot stickers to the center of the paper plate sunflower design.
