Torn Foil Disco Ball Craft Idea For New Year's Eve

There is something undeniably magical about a disco ball. It catches the light, throws sparkles across the room, and instantly says, “It’s time to party.”

Today’s torn foil disco ball craft is perfect for anyone who loves a bit of glitz without the fuss. It’s messy in the best way, incredibly forgiving (no precision cutting required!), and results in a textured, shimmering ornament that looks far more expensive than it actually is. Whether you are hosting a big bash in the classroom or having a cozy countdown with the kids, these shiny spheres will set the perfect mood for ringing in the new year!

Craft Supplies:

Gather these simple supplies before you start. You might be surprised at how little you need to create something so festive.

  • Aluminum Foil
  • Gray Cardstock Paper
  • Disco Ball Printable – from box.com
  • School Glue
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Lay down some old newspaper or a disposable tablecloth to protect your surfaces. Gather all your materials to ensure everything is easily accessible during the craft.

  • First things first – download and print out the FREE provided blank “Shimmer, sparkle and shine – this new year is mine” printable listed above on a single piece of light GRAY cardstock paper.
  • If desired, have kids color in some of the details in the disco ball however they like.
  • Help your child cut or tear their aluminum foil into small pieces.
  • Now, have them use school glue to attach the torn paper pieces inside the “disco ball” design on the printable.
  • The final step is to add some star stickers or other embellishments you see fit.
  • Allow the paper piece to dry completely before gifting it away or displaying it proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
