Get ready to sparkle and shine into the New Year with this fun and easy craft for kids! Our Paper Plate Disco Ball is the perfect way to celebrate the countdown in style while creating a keepsake you’ll treasure forever. With just a few simple supplies and a touch of creativity, kids can make their very own disco ball complete with a handprint keepsake and a special message: ‘Spinning and Sparkling Into a New Year!’

This craft is not only a great way to keep little hands busy during the festivities, but it also doubles as a festive decoration to light up your New Year’s Eve celebration. Let’s get crafting and make this New Year one to remember!

Craft Supplies:

Creating this New Year’s Eve craft is simple and requires minimal supplies. You probably already have most of these items at home! Here’s your supply list:

  • {1} Large, White Paper Plate
  • Gray Craft Paint
  • Large Paint Brush
  • Loose Silver Craft Glitter
  • Disco Ball Printable – from box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Glitter Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • String/Single Hole Punch
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Now it’s time for the fun to begin. Follow these simple steps to create your disco ball masterpiece:

  • Start by squirting some gray paint into the center of your large paper plate. Use a paintbrush to spread the paint evenly across the entire surface until it’s fully covered.
  • While the paint is still wet, sprinkle loose craft glitter over the plate to give it that extra sparkle. Set the plate aside to dry.
  • While the plate dries, grab your tag printout and carefully cut out one of the designs.
  • Next, trace your child’s hand onto a piece of paper or cardstock and cut it out. This handprint will be the centerpiece of your disco ball.
  • Once the paper plate is dry, punch a single hole at the top of the plate. Thread a piece of string or ribbon through the hole and tie it securely to create a loop for hanging.
  • Glue the handprint cutout to the center of the decorated paper plate. Then, attach the tag below or next to the handprint to complete the design. Make sure everything is securely in place.
  • Hang your sparkling disco ball in a special spot to celebrate the New Year in style!
  • Completely optional – if you choose to, you can have kids decorate BOTH sides of the paper plate {with a handprint cutout and tag} so it truly does SPIN when displayed!
