Winter is the perfect time to cozy up indoors and get creative with your little ones! If you’re looking for a fun, hands-on activity that’s easy to set up and keeps kids entertained, this Torn Paper Winter Mitten craft is just the thing.

Not only is it a great way to celebrate the chilly season, but it also helps kids develop fine motor skills, practice creativity, and explore textures and colors.

This craft is ideal for kids of all ages, whether you’re a parent looking for a weekend activity, a teacher planning a classroom project, or a caregiver seeking a simple yet engaging craft. The best part? We’ve included a free mitten template printable to make the process even easier. So, grab your supplies, gather the kids, and let’s create some colorful, cozy mittens that are as unique as snowflakes!

Craft Supplies:

Here’s everything you’ll need to get started on your torn paper mitten card:

  • Construction Paper {choice of color}
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Mitten Printable – from our landing page
  • School Glue
  • White Cotton Balls
  • Embellishments

You probably already have most of these items at home! If not, they’re easily available at local craft stores or even dollar stores.

Directions:

Follow these easy steps to create a one-of-a-kind warm wishes card:

  • Start by downloading and printing the free “warm wishes this winter season” mitten template, found above. For best results, print it on a sheet of colored cardstock paper.
  • Help your child tear or cut construction paper into small pieces. These pieces will become the inside of the mitten design.
  • Now for the fun part! Have your child use school glue to attach the torn paper pieces inside the glove outline on the printable. Remember to let them know it’s all about having fun and making something unique, not about being perfect.
  • For a wintery touch, help them also glue cotton balls along the cuff of the mitten.
  • Once the mitten design is filled in, let your child add stickers and/or glitter glue. This is their chance to give their winter glove some holiday flair and a personality all its own!
  • Set the finished artwork aside to dry completely before you display it or gift it to someone special.
