Looking for a fun, hands-on activity to celebrate the fall season with your little ones? This torn paper leaf craft is the perfect way to combine creativity and seasonal charm!

Not only is it simple and mess-free, making it ideal for kids of all ages, but it also gives children a chance to explore the rich colors of autumn as they create their own vibrant leaves. Tearing and gluing paper helps develop fine motor skills, and the project allows plenty of room for self-expression. Plus, we’ve included a free printable leaf template to make crafting even easier.

Craft Supplies:

To create your colorful fall leaf, gather the following supplies:

  • Construction Paper {brown, orange, red or yellow}
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Fall Leaf Printable – on our landing page
  • School Glue
  • Craft Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Follow these simple steps to create your vibrant “you are unbe-leaf-able” craft:

  • First things first – download and print out the FREE provided blank leaf printable listed above, on a single piece of white cardstock paper.
  • Now hand over the construction paper to your little artist and encourage them to tear it into small pieces. The irregular shapes give the finished project a playful, textured look, so don’t worry about perfection.
  • Next have them use school glue to glue those pieces inside the “leaf” design.
  • The final step is to have kids add their own personalization, along with a few strands of yarn for the “veins” in the leaf. They can also add wiggle eyes to bring it to life.
  • When they are done decorating, allow the finished design to dry completely before gifting.
  • Be sure to also snap a photo and share it with the hashtag #GluedToMyCrafts or tag us to showcase their beautiful artwork. We’d love to see what you create!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
