- White Cardstock Paper
- White Computer Paper
- Colored Cardstock Paper
- Crayons, Coloring Pencils or Markers
- School Glue
- Embellishments
Feel free to substitute materials based on what you already have at home. Creativity thrives with a little improvisation!
Directions:
- First things first – download and print out the FREE provided gnome hat printable listed above, on a single piece of white cardstock paper. One print out will give you TWO opportunities to do this craft today.
- Have kids color in one of the hat designs in the printable and help them trim it out.
- Next up, help your child cut/tear their white computer paper into thin, long strips for the gnome’s heard.
- Have them use school glue to glue those strips, in a beard formation, on a sheet of colored cardstock paper.
- The final step is to glue the hat cutout on top of the paper strips.
- At this point in time, kids can add any other embellishments they see fit.
- And just like that, their Torn Paper Gnome craft is complete! Set aside to let it all dry completely before displaying proudly!
To make this activity even more engaging, here are some fun customization ideas:
- Seasonal Gnome: Use seasonal colors for your gnome’s hat and beard. Think red and green for Christmas, orange and brown for fall, or pastel shades for spring.
- Add Patterns: Encourage kids to draw patterns or shapes on the hat before attaching it. Polka dots, stripes, or zigzags can make their gnomes stand out.
- Textured Beard: Instead of plain white paper, try tearing up cotton balls for a fluffy, cloud-like beard. It’s a great sensory element!
