Torn Paper Volcano Craft Idea for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is a special time to show appreciation for the dads and father figures in our lives. While store-bought gifts are always an option, a handmade present carries a unique charm that no store receipt can replicate.

If you’re looking for a fun, meaningful, and creative way to spark joy this Father’s Day, the Torn Paper Volcano Craft idea is here to save the day. This quirky and sentimental project lets kids engage in a hands-on activity with a heartfelt message that says, “I Lava You!”

Craft Supplies:

Before you jump into the project, let’s organize your crafting toolkit. Most of these materials are already available in a typical household, making this craft truly accessible.

  • Red Construction Paper
  • Orange Construction Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Dinosaur Card Printable – on our landing page
  • Brown Crayon, Marker or Coloring Pencil
  • School Glue
  • Red Glitter Glue
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Here’s a step-by-step guide to bringing your Father’s Day card masterpiece to life:

  • Begin by downloading the FREE printable (linked above) and print it onto a sheet of white cardstock. I Lava You
  • Let the kids bring the volcano to life by coloring it with brown crayons, markers, or colored pencils.
  • Next, assist your child in tearing or cutting red and orange construction paper into small pieces.
  • Now it’s time to create the lava! Unlike our other torn paper crafts, kids can customize their masterpiece by adding as much or as little lava as they like. Have them apply school glue wherever they like, then press the torn paper gently on top. At this point in time they can also add the red glitter glue for extra sparkle.
  • Once the lava is complete, let your child add any extra embellishments to make their artwork uniquely theirs.
  • Allow the finished project to dry completely.
  • Finally, capture their lava-tastic creation with a photo and share it using the hashtag #GluedToMyCrafts or tag us—we’d love to see their incredible work!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
