Thumbprint Flower Bookmark Craft Idea

Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are perfect occasions to create heartfelt, handmade gifts. What better way to brighten someone’s day than with a colorful, sentimental keepsake? This thumbprint flower bookmark craft is a fun and meaningful activity for kids, offering them a chance to express their creativity while making something special for loved ones.

Whether it’s for a parent, grandparent, teacher, or sibling, this easy-to-make craft transforms simple materials into a thoughtful gift. Follow our step-by-step guide below to create an adorable thumbprint flower bookmark!

Craft Supplies:

To get started, gather the following materials. Most of these can be found at home or purchased affordably at a craft store:

  • Flower Bookmark Printable – on box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Washable Ink Pad
  • Baby Wipes
  • Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
  • Clear Contact Paper
  • Single Hole Punch

Directions:

Follow these easy steps to make your own thumbprint flower bookmark:

  • First print out the provided file from the supply list. One printable makes THREE flower bookmarks at a time. Please only use our file for personal use.
  • Use scissors {or a paper trimmer} to trim out each bookmark design.
  • Next up – open your ink pad up.
  • Place your thumb on the ink pad, then on one of the bookmarks, to start filling in the flower design.
  • Repeat the thumbprint step till the flower petals are filled in, on each bookmark.
  • Use baby wipes to remove excess ink off of your fingers before washing hands completely at the sink. This step is VERY important so you don’t accidentally get extra ink or oil on the bookmarks.
  • Once done washing your hands, go ahead and color in any remaining portions of the flower design. You can use crayons, markers etc.
  • Follow that up by adding other embellishments you see fit.
  • Then the last step is to “seal” the bookmark by placing it between two pieces of clear contact paper.
  • Finally, trim around the edges and hole punch a hole at the top for some ribbon. Then gift away your beautiful thumbprint flower bookmark to that special someone!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
