Directions:

  • First things first – print out the provided printable and use scissors to cut out the four shapes.
  • Discard excess paper.
  • Next, open your ink pad up.
  • Place your thumb {or index finger} on the ink pad, then on one of the bookmarks, to give color to one of the lightbulb designs.
  • Repeat the above step until all the lights are filled in. Do this step for EACH bookmark cutout.
  • Use baby wipes to remove excess ink off of your fingers before washing hands completely at the sink. This step is VERY important so they don’t accidentally get extra ink or oil on the bookmarks.
  • Next up – cut two equal sized piece of contact paper.
  • Peel the backing off of one piece of contact paper and lay it down, sticky side up, on your work surface.
  • Lay your four bookmark designs on top, leaving space between each one.
  • Now peel the backing off the second piece of contact paper and carefully lay it on top of the first.
  • Use your hand to make sure everything is sealed together and that no bubbles exist.
  • When ready, use scissors to trim off the excess contact paper from around the edges.
  • The last step is to hole punch a single hole at the top of each and thread/tie off some string through it.
  • Now gift them away proudly {maybe with a new book or gift card to their favorite book store!}

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
