Torn Paper Star Craft Idea For New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is a special time to celebrate fresh beginnings with family and loved ones. While we often focus on countdowns, parties, and resolutions, why not add a heartfelt crafting session to your celebrations this year?

Today’s torn paper star craft tutorial is not only super simple and fun but also allows your kids to express their creativity while creating something memorable.

This guide will show you how to make vibrant paper stars with your kids, step by step. It’s an easy craft suitable for children of all ages, and the materials are likely already in your home! At the end of the activity, you’ll have beautiful decorations perfect for New Year’s Eve and wonderful keepsakes to remember the occasion.

Craft Supplies:

Before you begin, gather these materials:

  • STAR PRINTABLE – on our landing page
  • Cardstock Paper {any color}
  • Yellow Construction Paper
  • School Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Printed Picture
  • optional – washable craft paint

Pro tip: If you want to go eco-friendly, use old magazines, wrapping paper scraps, or even leftover tissue paper from holiday gifts to bring the star to life!

Directions:

  • First download and print the FREE my year to shine bright template listed above, on a single piece of cardstock paper. You will need to print ONE for each craft you want to do with your child.
  • Now help your child cut/tear their second sheet of paper into small pieces.
  • Next grab the school glue and put a good amount of glue ALL over the inside of the star design on the printable.
  • Have children place their paper pieces on top of the glue {adding more if needed} until the star is completely covered.
  • For added sparkle, use the school glue to “draw” around the decorated star and shake loose craft glitter on top.
  • The final step is to add a photo to the center to finish off the overall design and pull together the overall theme.
  • For added fun, I also add some fingerprint painted dots to look like star bursts.
  • Once done decorating, set aside to let it all dry completely before displaying/gifting proudly!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
