Penguin Scarf Keepsake Ornament

Winter is here, and what better way to celebrate the cozy season than with a fun and creative craft project? If you’re looking for an easy, adorable, and memorable activity for kids, we’ve got the perfect idea for you!

This Popsicle Stick Penguin Scarf Keepsake Ornament is not only simple to make but also doubles as a special keepsake you can hang on your tree year after year.

This craft is ideal for children of all ages and makes for a great group activity at home, in a classroom, or even at a community holiday event. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to teach kids the joys of creating something meaningful with their own hands.

Craft Supplies

Before you begin, gather the following materials. Many of these are common crafting supplies, so you might already have them lying around at home!

  • Penguin Scarf Poem Printable – from our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Jumbo Popsicle Stick
  • Markers/Embellishments
  • Ribbon/String
  • Scissors
  • optional – Hot Glue Gun and Hole Punch

Directions:

  • To recreate this penguin child height ornament – simply download our FREE PRINTABLE and print it in color on some white cardstock paper.
  • Trim out the gift tag{s} from the printable. Have kids fill in the blanks on the tag. Laminate it if desired.
  • Add a hole punch to one side of the tag and set it aside till later.
  • Now take your jumbo popsicle stick and decorate one side to look like a PENGUIN. Pull out the craft paints, markers, sequins – whatever you might have on hand to bring them to life. Just keep in mind to remind children that they need to leave room for the scarf element in the center.
  • When they are done decorating the craft stick, take some THIN craft ribbon and measure your child with it from head to toe. Using scissors, trim down the ribbon {or craft yarn} to the same exact height of them your child.
  • Now take that very ribbon and wrap it around the decorated stick, to make his scarf. You can either tie it so doesn’t come loose {but parents can still remove it if they choose} or go ahead and hot glue it in place for safe keeping.
  • The last step is to make a hanging loop {possibly from your remaining ribbon} and add the finished gift tag through it, so you can hot glue it in place on the back of the penguin piece.
  • And that’s it! Then display and/or gift away or penguin height keepsake ornament!
