This craft also helps children build fine motor skills like cutting and gluing while encouraging their creativity. It’s a win-win activity that’s as educational as it is fun.

Craft Supplies:

One of the great things about this craft is that it uses materials you either already have at home or can easily find at your local craft store. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Light Bulb Printable – on our landing page
  • Clear Contact Paper
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Tissue Paper {multiple colors}
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Pipe Cleaners

Directions:

This light bulb suncatcher craft is super kid-friendly, but younger children may need help from an adult when using scissors or contact paper.

  • First print out the provided FREE light bulb shape that is listed above in the supply list.
  • If desired, use crayons to the color in the hanger design in the printable.
  • Next up, use your scissors to trim out the design, as well as the center of it.
  • Now grab your contact paper and cut two pieces the same length out. You want both pieces to be bigger than the original bulb design.
  • Take off the protective paper from one of the contact paper sheets and lay it on a flat surface, with the sticky side up.
  • Go ahead and lay your lightbulb cutout in the center of the contact paper sheet.
  • Next sprinkle a little bit of glitter inside the design. Spread it around with your fingers.
  • Now take small squares of tissue paper and place them inside the cutout, until he is completely filled in.
  • When done, grab the remaining piece of contact paper and also remove it’s protective sheet.
  • Lay it on top of your decorated design, sticky side down. Make sure every corner is stuck together.
  • To finish off the craft, use your scissors to trim out the Christmas light shape.
  • Add a single hole punch at the top and thread/bend your pipe cleaner through the hole, to make a hanger.
  • Then display your stained glass Christmas light piece proudly on a window or on the tree.
  • These suncatchers can also double as decorations for wrapped gifts. Tape them onto the top of a present as a bonus gift for someone special.
