Are you looking for a creative and engaging activity to do with your class on the first day of school? Then our latest and greatest “paper bag raccoon” craft might be just what you need!

This simple yet delightful story time craft project is perfect for keeping little hands busy and minds imaginative. Plus, it’s an excellent way to teach children about wildlife in a fun and interactive way. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the steps to create an adorable paper bag and handprint raccoon, perfect for pairing with the book “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn.

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, this paper bag raccoon craft is sure to become a favorite in your arsenal of back to school activities!

Craft Supplies:

  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Raccoon Printable – on our landing page
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Gray Crayon, Marker or Coloring Pencil
  • Googly Eyes – two per craft
  • Scissors
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Brown Paper Bag
  • Gray Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush

Directions:

  • First things first – download and print out the provided raccoon head printable, on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need ONE print per craft.
  • Now go ahead and color in one of the head shapes in the print out.
  • At this point in time you can also glue on the two googly eyes as well.
  • When done, trim it out and discard excess paper.
  • Set aside for now.
  • Next up – lay your brown paper bag on a flat surface with the flap of the bag facing upwards.
  • Paint the larger {rectangle} part of the paper bag completely gray.
  • Follow that up by gluing the head shape to the unpainted flap of the decorated paper bag.
  • Finally, the last step is to trace/cut out TWO handprint cutouts from your black cardstock paper and adhere them to the “body” of the painted paper bag.
  • And that’s it! Let it dry completely in an undisturbed area.
  • Then display your awesome lunch sack raccoon craft piece proudly for all to see or use it as a puppet!
