Cupcake Liner Poppy Flower Wreath

As we approach Veteran’s Day, a day to honor our nation’s heroes for their service and sacrifices, why not create something special as a gesture of appreciation?

What could be more appropriate than creating an easy-to-craft poppy flower wreath using colorful cupcake liners!

This project is simple enough for anyone regardless of crafting skills or experience yet results in a timeless and thoughtful homage that will bring joy every time it is viewed.

All you need are just a few basic materials to make this beautiful flower wreath – read on to learn how you can craft this sweet tribute from the comfort of your own home.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate – one per craft
  • LARGE Red, Cupcake Liners {about 20}
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Green Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Glue Stick
  • Black Craft Ribbon

Directions:

  • First things first – cut out the center of your paper plate, leaving a simple ring shape for the wreath.
  • Discard the center piece you just cut out.
  • Now grab your RED cupcake liners, your stapler and the scissors.
  • For each “poppy flower” on the wreath, you are going to want TWO large cupcake liners.
  • Flatten each set out with your hands and stack them on top of each other.
  • Use the stapler to secure them together in the center.
  • Next use the scissors to cut a simple fringe around the edge.
  • Then use your fingers to “fluff” it up and give it even more dimension. Repeat.
  • When you have a whole bunch of flowers ready, staple one flower stack to the rim of the paper plate. Do this step for each “flower” on the wreath until the paper plate is completely covered.
  • Now grab your black cardstock paper.
  • Cut out a small circle, for EACH paper poppies.
  • Use your glue stick to glue ONE black circle, on top of each red cupcake liner set.
  • Now grab your green cardstock paper.
  • Cut out a few simple “leaf” shapes and glue them in place on your wreath as well.
  • Once the plate is completely covered and there are no blank spaces left, staple a large black bow to the front.
  • If desired, add a ribbon “hanger” to the back of the finished piece.
  • Then display your beautiful paper plate poppy wreath in your home or on the front door proudly for ALL to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
