Cardboard Roll Lion Craft Idea For Kids

This adventurous project using recycled cardboard and craft yarn, is perfect for giving little ones something to look forward to when they’re stuck indoors or just looking for a fun activity to pass the time!

Craft Supplies:

  • Empty Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Lion Printable – on our landing page
  • Printer
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Paint Crayons {orange and yellow}
  • Coloring Pencils, Crayons or Markers
  • Small Googly Eyes
  • Craft Scissors
  • Orange Craft Yarn
  • Stapler
  • School Glue

Directions:

  • First flatten out your cardboard tube and staple it on each end, to make a rectangle shape. This will be the lion’s body.
  • Next paint on side of the toilet paper roll with a yellow paint crayon {or use a basic paint brush and craft paint instead!}
  • Set it aside to allow it to dry.
  • Now grab your printed printable and choice of coloring materials.
  • Color in ONE of the lion head designs and trim it out afterwards.
  • At this point in time, you can also add the wiggle eyes and a few small strands of the orange yarn, all around the edge, for the lion’s mane.
  • Set this piece aside with the painted toilet paper roll.
  • Now for the tail. Cut off THREE long strands of orange craft yarn.
  • Tie them together and do a simple braid to create his tail. Be sure to tie it off on the other end with a knot, so it doesn’t come apart.
  • When ready, go ahead and staple the tail piece to the back of the painted cardboard roll.
  • Now for the final assembling step! Glue {or staple} the decorated lion’s face piece to the toilet paper roll.
  • And that’s it! Allow it to dry completely before touching.
  • Then display/play with your lion toilet paper roll craft proudly!!!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
