Show that special someone how much you care this Valentine’s Day with a homemade salt dough heart gift! Making something from the heart has never been so easy – get creative and get crafting!
Craft Supplies:
- 1 cup Flour
- 1 cup Salt
- 1/2 cup Water
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Mixing Spoon
- Valentine Cookie Cutters
- Rolling Pin
- Straw {to make hole in salt dough pieces}
- Wax Paper
- Various Colors of Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Glitter/Embellishments
Directions:
- First combine your flour, salt and water in large bowl.
- Mix/knead until mixture is smooth and well combined. If too sticky – add more flour. If too dry – add more water.
- Set your oven to the lowest temperature it will go.
- Roll out your dough mixture on a flat surface and cut shapes out of it. You don’t want the thickness of the dough to go beyond half an inch.
- When you have your shapes cut out, if you want to make gift tags, use the straw to make a hole where the ribbon will go through.
- Place some wax paper on a large cookie sheet.
- Lay out your cut-out salt dough pieces on cookie sheet, leaving some space between each piece.
- Place the cookie sheet in the oven.
- Bake your salt dough pieces for three hours, turning/flipping them over every hour.
- When done baking, let them cool completely.
- Decorate with paint or other embellishments like glitter, glitter glue etc.
- When done decorating, let dry completely.
- Then use your beautiful new pieces for gifts, ornaments or magnets!!!

I’m planning on tying our heart shaped salt dough ornament pieces to some fabric gift bags with some plain ribbon and then gifting just as is. I even pulled a couple aside to place on my little picture holder ladder that I decorate for each holiday. These pieces were definitely worth it to me!
And my last tip for this post – with a thin-tip Sharpie marker, you can easily address your gifts to a receiver or write a special message on the back.
