Fall is the perfect time to cozy up indoors and get creative with your little ones. With leaves changing, pumpkins popping up everywhere, and acorns scattered across the ground, there’s no better season for crafting! Today, we’re sharing a fun and artistic project that kids (and even parents) will love—Black Glue & Watercolor Acorn Art.

This simple craft combines the boldness of black glue with the vibrance of watercolor paints to create a striking and colorful acorn-themed masterpiece. The best part? It’s easy, inexpensive, and uses materials you likely already have at home. Plus, it offers a creative outlet while boosting your child’s fine motor skills and artistic confidence.

Craft Supplies:

Before you begin, gather everything you need for this neat craft project. Here’s a quick checklist:

  • ACORN Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Watercolors
  • Paint Brushes
  • Dish w/water
  • Black Glitter Glue
  • Gold Glitter Glue
  • Large Wiggle Eyes

Creating Black Glue:

If you don’t have black glue on hand, don’t worry—it’s incredibly easy to make using regular school glue and black acrylic paint. Simply pour your white glue into a small squeeze bottle, add a dollop of black paint, and shake it well until the glue is a solid black color. Voila! You’re ready to go.

Directions:

  • First things first – print out the ACORN TEMPLATE listed above, on white cardstock paper {or any color you like!} Print it as much and many times as you like!
  • Next, if desired, you can cut the acorn template out with scissors before or after you paint them. I opted for not cutting mine out but it’s just another angle you can take this craft 🙂
  • Now it’s time to paint! Let the kids go wide and paint their little hearts out! Remember – you can make this a teachable moment on how to make different shades of BROWN, with the colors they have in front of them!
  • For added flair {and more crafty fun} have children add black glitter glue around the edges and inside the painted acorn design.
  • Finish off by giving your acorns some personality and gluing on wiggle eyes for them to see!
  • Set aside to let it dry when done.
  • Finally – display your hard work proudly!
