Popsicle Stick Hot Dog - Kid Craft Idea

Hot Dog Popsicle Stick Craft

Hi friends! I’m so glad you stumbled upon our super easy popsicle stick hot dog craft tutorial today! I just know you are going to love it!

Inspired by the popular book Pigeon Finds A Hot Dog by Mo Williems, today I present to YOU our pretend hot dog kid craft idea!

When Pigeon finds a delicious hot dog, he can hardly wait to shove the entire thing in his beak. But . . . then a very sly and hungry duckling enters the scene and wants a bite. Who will be the more clever bird?

In this hilarious follow-up to the acclaimed Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Mo Willems has created another avian adventure that encourages children to share even their most prized processed foods.

Popsicle Stick Hot Dog - Kid Craft Idea

Make your next story time event even more special with this fun Popsicle Stick Hot Dog idea! Get creative and watch the smiles appear on all those little faces!

Craft Supplies:

  • Mini Popsicle Sticks
  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • School Glue
  • Pink Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Red Puffy Paint
  • Yellow Puffy Paint
  • Scissors
  • Light Brown Cardstock Paper

Directions:

  • First things first things – start off by gluing together TWO mini popsicle sticks and THREE jumbo popsicle sticks to create a “fence.”
  • Repeat for each hot dog you want to make.
  • Next have children paint the front of their newly made popsicle stick shape to give it the look of a hot dog {I did pink but you could also mix some red and brown paint for a more realistic hot dog color}
  • While they are working on that, cut out a oval “bun” shape from the brown cardstock. Remember – you will want it slightly bigger than your popsicle stick shape.
  • To finish off the Hot Dog Craft, glue the popsicle stick shape and cardstock bun pieces together and add some puffy paint “ketchup and mustard” on top.
  • When done, set aside to let it dry completely and display proudly afterwards!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
