Gather up your materials (that you probably already have most things lying around the house) and let’s get started making our very own whales together.

Craft Supplies:

  • Styrofoam Cup
  • Blue Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Paint Brush
  • Blue Craft Foam
  • Large Wiggle Eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Low Temp Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Directions:

  • First your child will need to paint their cup blue – making sure to cover the entire thing.
  • While your child is doing that, you can work on the extra pieces for the whale. Cut the pipe cleaners into thirds and cut out a whale tail out of the blue craft foam.
  • For the whale tail I kinda pictured in my head a mermaid tail and went from there.
  • When your child is done painting their cup blue, let it dry while you get the hot glue gun ready.
  • Once the paint is completely dry, you are going to start adding the elements that make it look like a whale.
  • With the cup upside down, stick your pipe cleaners through the top of the cup.  {Not too far in – just a little to make it stand up} The metal from the pipe cleaners should make it easy to do that.
  • Once inserted, curl the tips of the pipe cleaners a bit, to make it look like water splashing out.
  • To finish off your whale, hot glue the wiggle eyes and tail on the cup. And that’s it! You just created a whale. Not to shabby right?

Styrofoam Cup Lobster - Kid Craft

Our whale themed craft also goes perfect with our Lobster Cup Craft that I shared a few days ago on Glued To My Crafts.

Wouldn’t these be cute together for a beach themed party? Decorate a table or two with them. Or better yet, maybe have the attending kids make these as a party favor/activity. I’m sure they would enjoy that!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
