Hanging Clothes Busy Bag Activity For Toddlers
Who says boys can’t hang the laundry? Is it really a “woman” thing. I think not!
I’m so grateful my husband takes part in doing the laundry & among other stuff around the house. I always find it interesting when I hear other wives say that their husband’s don’t help. I’ve even heard husband’s say “It’s woman’s work.” Last time I checked – a washer & dryer can be operated by all sexes. Just saying…
I honestly don’t know what I would do without my husband’s help. In fact, during this deployment, I get really overwhelmed {and lazy} on the household chores. I find excuses to not do them and really regret it later as they pile up. Most of the time when I do get to them – they are overflowing. YIKES! Hurry on home hubby! I have a growing “Honey Do! List” for you!
So today’s tutorial could be a two-fold type thing. It’s a “hanging laundry” busy bag activity that will keep your child busy – for now. But it can also “maybe” teach them a valuable lesson in the future.
Although, not many people hang their clothes these days…it’s still teaching the valuable lesson about doing laundry in general. You can make it fun & interesting for them. Who knows, I may be teaching my son a thing that his future wife might appreciate! {Dear future wife for my son – you’re welcome!}

For the Hanging Clothes Activity, you only need a few things. In fact, you can easily substitute items for what you have at home!
Here is what I used:
- Craft Felt or Fabric Scraps
- Fabric Scissors
- Wooden Clothespins
- Twine or Ribbon
- Sharpie/Fabric Marker
Make It Your Own:
- Instead of felt or fabric scraps, raid your closet for old clothes {like jeans and holey shirts} that can be cut up for this craft.
- Or just skip making fake clothes all together & just grab random socks who lost their partners in crime {If you go with the sock idea, just skip the tutorial entirely & check out the play in action pictures below!}
The Directions:
- If you are using felt or fabric, go ahead & draw out shapes to look like t-shirts, pants, skirts, dresses, etc. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it helps if it does look like laundry.
- Using your fabric scissors, cut out your shapes.
- With felt, you won’t have to do anything extra. However, if you use fabric for this game, I suggest sewing the edges so the pieces last longer.
- And that’s it!
- To make the game work, grab some twine & tie it between two chairs to give the look of a clothes line. Then hand over the clothes/clothespins and show your child how to hang them.
