As with everything in our house, lil man’s hands are all over them – literally. There isn’t an object I can’t touch in the living room that doesn’t have a sticky residue. How or when it happens – who knows? All I know is that I have a monthly duty of cleaning it all up. Most of the cleaning I have to do is scrubbing down his toys so we don’t attach bugs or get funny looks if we have playdates. Plus if we keep them in good shape {the hope} is that the toys will be treasured longer.
And like any little boy, lil man loves his toy cars. But they always seem to be the stickiest. So instead of me slaving over cleaning them {like I always do} I took the supplies outside & made him do it. Not in a mean way but in a fun way. Not only did this Backyard Car Wash activity get all the sticky gunk off BUT he had a great time helping out. This activity is perfect for toddlers or even older kids this summer and you don’t need ANY extra supplies. In fact, you can substitute with whatever you do have and making it work for you!
Here is what you need to create your own kid-friendly Backyard Car Wash at home:
* Large container or Bucket
* Dish Soap or Bubble Wrap
* Various Sponges
* Various Sizes of Plastic Cups
* Plastic Cars {stuff that does not require batteries and CAN go in water!}
And of course, a large space that will accommodate your car wash & a cute sign!
This activity is simple, you probably aren’t even reading anymore. But I’ll explain anyways.
All you need to do is fill up your container with water, add some soap and hand it over to your child. Tell them to wash up their cars and if you like – grab the hose for cars to be washed off OR get another bucket with plain water.
It’s as simple as that. Then when done, dry/empty thing out and store away, just like before!
If you have older kids, you could help them set up a lemonade stand with their car wash. Invite the neighborhood kids to get their toy cars washed & drink some lemonade. Make a whole day event out of it!
