Some snowmen stand tall with perfect round heads and neat little buttons. These snowmen have gone soft in the best possible way. This “You Melt My Heart” melted snowman card turns a simple kitchen spatula into a stamping tool, and the result is a pair of puddly, lovable snowmen with jaunty top hats and carrot noses.
The charm is that the snowmen are supposed to look messy. Every smear, drip, and lumpy edge adds personality. That makes this craft a great pick for little hands, busy classrooms, and anyone who wants a stress-free afternoon project.
It works for winter and for Valentine’s Day. Kids can give it to a parent, a grandparent, a teacher, or a best friend. The sweet message inside, “you melt my heart!“, is sure to get a smile.
Craft Supplies:
Gather these supplies before you start:
- Dark grey cardstock (one sheet per card)
- White acrylic paint
- A flat plastic spatula for stamping
- Black construction paper for the top hats
- Orange paper for the carrot noses
- Heart stickers/snowflake stickers
- Markers for writing the message
- Glue (a glue stick works great)
- Paper plate to hold the paint
Directions:
Step 1: Prepare Your Paint Palette
Cover your work area with newspaper or a placemat. Then squeeze a generous puddle of white acrylic paint onto the paper plate.
Step 2: Stamp the Melted Snowman Bodies
Here’s the fun part! Press the flat face of the spatula into the paint so the whole surface gets coated. Lift it up and press it firmly onto the grey cardstock.
Before you lift the spatula, give it a little wiggle or a gentle smoosh. This spreads the paint out unevenly and creates that melty, puddly look. Then lift straight up.
Make two snowmen on your card:
- One in the top left area
- One in the bottom right area
This diagonal layout leaves plenty of open space for your message later.
Now let the paint dry completely. Acrylic paint usually dries in 15 to 20 minutes. This is a great time to move on to cutting the hats and noses.
Tip: No two prints will look the same, and that’s the point. Remind kids that a “melted” snowman can’t be done wrong!
Step 3: Cut and Glue the Top Hats and Carrot Noses
While the paint dries, cut out the accessories:
- Top hats: Cut two small top hats from black construction paper. A tall rectangle sitting on a thin, wide rectangle (the brim) makes an easy hat shape.
- Carrot noses: Cut two long, skinny triangles from orange paper.
Once the paint is dry, glue a hat to the top edge of each snowman. Tilt them at fun angles. A slightly crooked hat makes the snowman look like it’s slowly sliding down into a puddle.
Next, glue on the carrot noses. Try pointing the noses in opposite directions, so the two snowmen look like they’re facing each other. It’s a sweet little detail that ties the whole card together.
Tip: For younger kids, pre-cut the hats and noses ahead of time. They’ll still love arranging and gluing everything in place.
Step 4: Add Glitter Hearts and Stick Arms
Now give your snowmen some love! Press a glittery heart sticker near the bottom of each white puddle. One can go on the left side and one on the right. It looks like each snowman is holding a heart, or like the heart is floating up from the melted snow.
Grab your brown marker and draw stick arms reaching out from the sides of each snowman. Simple lines with a few little branches at the ends look just like twigs.
Tip: Let kids get creative here. Arms can wave, reach for the heart, or stretch toward the other snowman for a hug.
Step 5: Decorate with Snowflake Stickers
Sprinkle snowflake stickers across the grey cardstock around your snowmen. Scatter them in the empty spaces to make it feel like a snowy winter day.
Step 6: Write Your Message
Use the dark marker to write “you melt my heart!” in the open space on the upper right side of the card.
Then sign the bottom right corner with “Love, [name].” Kids can write their own name or get help from a grown-up.
And just like that, your melted snowman card is ready to give!
