Few things beat the moment a child peels open a folded page and finds a shimmering surprise inside. That little gasp of delight is what our famous paint splat technique is all about, and this year we’ve turned it into a sparkly Christmas angel your kids will love to make.
This Paint Splat Angel craft pairs our free printable angel template with gold and white paint wings that look like real feathers. Add a glittery dress, a sweet face, and a shining halo, and you’ve got a holiday keepsake worth hanging on the tree, taping to the fridge, or tucking into a card for Grandma.
It’s simple enough for preschoolers with a little help and fun enough to keep older kids busy for an afternoon. It also works well for a classroom art session. Let’s get messy!

Directions:
- First things first – print out the angel printable on white cardstock paper.
- Use your markers and crayons to color in the design however you like.
- Once done, cut out the angel shape and discard excess paper.
- Now grab your second sheet of gray cardstock paper.
- Fold it in half {either direction works!}
- Now unfold and squirt some gold and white craft paint on one side of the paper. Just a few squiggles will do. Just be sure to keep the paint inside the paper and not to close to the open edge. Also, less is more!
- Once the paint is down, go ahead and carefully fold up/squish your piece of paper together again.
- Rub your hand all over the folded piece, so the paint will make a symmetrical splat inside.
- Now carefully unfold your piece to reveal your “angel wings” design.
- If desired, sprinkle some loose craft glitter on top of the wet puffy paint design.
- To finish the paint splatter angel wing craft – glue the angel cutout in the center of the paint design. At this point in time you can use glitter glue and loose craft glitter to really make your artwork shine!
- When you are done crafting, set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly.
