Winter is a magical season for crafting! Frosty mornings, sparkling snowflakes, and cozy afternoons indoors make it the perfect time to pull out the paper and glue. For kids, crafting is more than just a fun way to pass a chilly day. It’s a chance to explore textures, colors, and imagination, all while making something they’re proud of.
If you loved our fall paint brush craft, you’re going to adore this winter version! This Crepe Paper Winter Paint Brush Craft swaps out warm autumn hues for icy blues and snowy whites. Craft Supplies:
We are going to paint a little winter magic on paper! Here’s a quick checklist of what you’ll need to get started:
- Winter Paint Brush Printable – box.com – password is GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS2026
- White Cardstock Paper
- Teal-Blue Cardstock Paper {for the background}
- Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
- Silver or Gray Marker {for drawing the snowflakes}
- Crepe Paper Streamers {in dark blue, light blue, and white}
- Craft Scissors
- Elmer’s School Glue
- Snowflakes stickers {or a snowflake paper punch}
- Pencil {for tracing hands}
Directions:
Set up a crafting area where kids can work comfortably. Cover the table with a plastic tablecloth or kraft paper to keep things mess-free. Encourage your little artists to wear an apron or an old t-shirt to protect their clothes, because glue has a way of finding its way everywhere!
- First things first, grab the free “winter paint brush” file {listed above in the supply list} and print it out on white cardstock paper.
- Use your crayons to color in the brush design. We colored our handle brown and outlined the metal band and bristles in black, but kids can go as wild as they like!
- Now trim out the paintbrush with scissors, along with the “Painting Winter Magic” text box. Set the pieces aside for now.
- Next up, it’s time for the handprints! Have your child place a hand flat on a sheet of white cardstock, fingers spread wide. Trace around it with a pencil. Repeat until you have three handprints.
- Carefully cut out each handprint. Younger kids may need a grown-up’s help with the fingers, while older kids can tackle this step on their own for some great scissor practice.
- Using a silver or gray marker, draw a snowflake in the center of each palm. Simple lines and a few little “V” shapes at the ends work beautifully. No two snowflakes are alike, so there’s no wrong way to do it!
- Now cut/tear your crepe paper streamers into long strips, about the length of your cardstock sheet. You’ll want five strips total: two dark blue, two light blue, and one white.
- Give each child a sheet of teal-blue cardstock. Using Elmer’s glue, have them attach the crepe paper strips so they fan out diagonally from the upper right corner down across the page. Alternate the colors {dark blue, light blue, dark blue, light blue, white} to create that flowing, “freshly painted” look.
- After placing the crepe paper, assist them in gluing the paintbrush cutout in the upper right corner, right where the strips begin. This makes it look like the winter “paint” is streaming straight from the brush!
- Glue the three snowflake handprints on top of the crepe paper streamers. We placed one in the upper left, one in the lower left, and one on the middle right, but kids can arrange them however they like.
- To finish the winter wonderland, scatter the snowflake stickers across the teal background and the streamers. The goal is to mimic snow gently falling from the sky. Younger children may sprinkle them randomly, while older kids might enjoy creating patterns or a little snowy swirl.
- Glue the “Painting Winter Magic” text box along the bottom of the page.
- Now you can stop here or add any other embellishments you see fit, like glitter, silver stickers, or a dusting of cotton ball “snow,” to give it your own personal spin!
- Then display your winter paint brush masterpiece proudly for ALL to see!!
