Paper Plate & Cotton Ball Snowflake Ornament Craft Idea

Get ready to bring some winter magic indoors with a craft that’s as fun to make as it is beautiful to display! This paper plate and cotton ball snowflake ornament is the perfect activity for a chilly afternoon. Plus, we’ve included a free printable to make your snowflake shapes even easier!

It’s simple, uses common household materials, and lets little hands get creative while developing fine motor skills. Let’s make some fluffy, sparkly snowflakes to decorate your home or classroom.

Craft Supplies:

Here is a list of the materials you’ll need to get started on your snowflake ornament:

  • Snowflake Outline – on box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Blue Paper Plates – one per ornament
  • White Cotton Balls
  • Embellishments
  • Single Hole Punch
  • String or Craft Ribbon

Most of these supplies are easy to find in your home or at a local grocery store. Customization is encouraged, so feel free to substitute or add materials depending on what you have on hand!

Directions:

Follow these simple steps to bring your beautiful snowflake craft to life:

  • Begin by downloading and printing the free snowflake template. Once printed, carefully cut out the snowflake shape with your scissors. Discard excess paper.
  • Take your blue paper plate and some school glue. Apply glue to the back of your paper snowflake cutout and press it firmly onto the center of the paper plate. This will be the beautiful pattern for your craft.
  • Now it’s time for the cotton balls! Place dabs of glue along the lines of the snowflake design you just attached. Gently pull apart the cotton balls to make them light and fluffy, then stick them onto the glue. Follow the pattern until your entire snowflake is covered in soft “snow.”
  • This is where you can make your snowflake truly unique! While the glue is still damp, add some extra sparkle. You can sprinkle on glitter, place shiny rhinestones, or add fun snowflake stickers. Get creative and make it your own!
  • Find a safe spot for your creation to dry completely.
  • Once it’s dry, use a single hole punch at the top of your finished snowflake design. Thread a piece of ribbon or yarn through the hole to make a loop for hanging.
  • Now your beautiful cotton ball snowflake is ready to be shown off – hang it on the tree or anywhere you like and display it proudly for everyone to see!
