There’s something about fall that makes everyone want to get a little crafty. The leaves are turning, Halloween is right around the corner, and kids are itching for a hands-on project that feels just spooky enough. That’s where these adorable little witch brooms come in!
This craft is one of my absolute favorites because it uses supplies you probably already have tucked away in a drawer or cabinet. Popsicle sticks, cupcake liners, a little glue, and a few pretty accents come together to make the cutest mini brooms you ever did see. It’s simple enough for preschoolers with a helping hand, and fun enough that big kids (and grown-ups!) will want to make a whole batch.
Craft Supplies:
Here’s everything to gather before you start. Most of these are craft-drawer staples, so raid your stash first!
- Regular popsicle sticks – one per broom
- Kraft paper cupcake liners – the natural brown ones give that perfect straw-broom look
- Small ribbon bows – in classic Halloween shades like purple, black, and white
- Elmer’s school glue – safe, non-toxic, and kid-approved
- Cardstock paper – for your backdrop
- optional – leaf stickers or embellishments
Directions:
Ready? These steps are quick and beginner-friendly. Follow along and you’ll have a trio of brooms in no time.
- Flatten your cupcake liner. Take one kraft paper cupcake liner and press it flat with your fingers. This makes it easier to fold and shape.
- Fold it into a fan. Fold the flattened liner in half, then in half again, creating a triangular fan shape. This becomes the bristly bottom of your broom.
- Glue down the popsicle stick handle. Squeeze a line of glue along one end of a popsicle stick and press it firmly onto your work surface or cardstock so the stick points straight up. Hold it steady for a few seconds while it sets.
- Attach the folded liner. Add a line of glue along the pointed end of your fan-folded liner. Press it onto the bottom of the popsicle stick so the bristles fan out at the base, forming the broom shape. Hold it in place until the glue grips.
- Glue on the bow. Add a small dab of glue right where the stick meets the cupcake liner. Press a ribbon bow into place to cover that little joint.
- Repeat! Make two or three brooms on your paper.
- Decorate. Scatter/glue down a few leaf shapes for a sprinkle of fall magic. Set them aside to dry completely.
- Display. That’s it! Stand back and admire your spooky-cute handiwork.
