Start by downloading the free “Swimming By” file and printing it onto a sturdy sheet of light blue paper or cardstock. This will serve as the base for your craft.

Let the kids dive into the fun by tearing gray construction paper into small pieces. There’s no right or wrong way to do this – some kids might prefer larger chunks, while others may enjoy creating tiny, confetti-like squares.

It’s time to bring the dolphin to life! Have your child apply liquid glue inside the black outline of the dolphin. They can either squeeze small dots of glue directly onto the cardstock or use a paintbrush to spread a thin layer of glue across the entire shape.

Once the glue is ready, kids can start placing their torn paper pieces inside the dolphin’s outline. Encourage them to cover as much of the blank space as possible. Overlapping pieces or edges that stick out beyond the lines are perfectly fine – they add character and charm to the craft!

To complete the underwater scene, add some adorable “thumbprint fish” around the dolphin. Open your washable ink pads and have your child press their index finger onto the ink. Then, gently press their finger onto the paper around the dolphin. They can add as many fish as they like! Once the thumbprints are in place, use a thin-tip marker to draw fins and tails, bringing the fish to life.

Once your child has finished decorating their unique card, set it aside to dry completely. When it’s ready, proudly display their masterpiece for everyone to admire!

A dolphin made of torn gray paper pieces is glued onto blue paper, surrounded by small fish drawings. Text says “Swimming by to say I love you!” Glue, seashells, and a branded label are also visible.

Now that your Torn Paper Dolphin is complete, it’s time to let it swim into someone’s heart! Whether you use it as a card, a gift, or a display piece, this craft is a wonderful way to share a little creativity and joy.

Don’t forget to share your finished creations with us – we’d love to see how your dolphins turned out! Until next time, keep crafting and making memories!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
