A colorful jellyfish craft made from a paper plate with multicolored dot stickers, googly eyes, and yellow crepe paper tentacles on a polka-dot background. @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS is written at the bottom.

Kids love summer break, but finding quick activities to fill those long afternoons takes work. You need a simple project that uses basic household supplies, prevents messes, and keeps little hands happily busy. This paper plate, crepe paper, and dot sticker jellyfish craft brings bright ocean fun right to your kitchen table.

With colorful stickers and flowy crepe paper tentacles, children can practice their fine motor skills while making an adorable sea creature. You can set this activity up in minutes, making it an ideal boredom buster for warm summer days.

Craft Supplies:

You likely have most of these materials tucked away in your craft bin. Here is what you need to build your jellyfish:

  • White paper plates: Standard, inexpensive paper plates work best.
  • Colorful dot stickers: Grab a sheet of round office labels or bright crafting stickers.
  • Crepe paper streamers: Yellow streamers add a sunny touch, but any color will do.
  • School glue: Liquid glue like Elmer’s works perfectly for securing the pieces.
  • Large googly eyes: These give your sea creature a fun, expressive face.
  • Scissors: You need these to cut the plates and paper strips.

Directions:

This craft requires very little prep time. Follow these simple steps to bring your ocean creature to life.

  1. Take your scissors and cut a standard white paper plate directly in half. One half makes the body for a single jellyfish.
  2. Set the other half aside for a second craft.
  3. Hand the half-plate to your child along with the sheet of colorful dot stickers. Let them cover the rounded surface of the plate with the stickers. They can overlap the circles, create rainbow patterns, or place them entirely at random. Peeling and sticking the dots provides excellent fine motor practice for younger kids.
  4. Once the plate is fully decorated, place two drops of liquid school glue near the center of the plate.
  5. Press the large googly eyes firmly into the glue.
  6. Cut four long strips of yellow crepe paper. These will become the jellyfish tentacles.
  7. Flip your decorated paper plate face down.
  8. Apply a line of school glue along the flat, straight edge of the plate.
  9. Press the ends of the crepe paper strips into the glue, allowing the long pieces to hang down.
  10. When done decorating, allow the paper plate piece to dry completely before displaying proudly for all to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
