Create a fun DIY patriotic flag this 4th of July! Our easy tutorial shows you how to make this kids’ craft using paper plates, crepe paper, and stars!
Craft Supplies:
Gather these simple items before you begin:
- Blue paper plates
- Red and white crepe paper rolls
- White stars (felt, foam, or thick paper)
- Washable school glue
- Scissors
Directions:
Step 1: Prep Your Plate
Take a blue paper plate and cut it straight down the middle to create two equal halves. You will use one half for each flag. The flat, cut edge will serve as the bottom of your craft.
Step 2: Add the Stars
Grab your white stars and glue them onto the front of the blue paper plate half. We suggest arranging them in two rows of three stars to give the craft a classic flag look. Press each star down firmly so the glue holds it in place.
Step 3: Cut the Streamers
Roll out your red and white crepe paper. Cut six strips that are all roughly the same length. You will need three red strips and three white strips to create your flag stripes.
Step 4: Attach the Stripes
Flip your paper plate over so the back faces you. Apply a solid line of school glue right along the flat bottom edge. Press the tops of your crepe paper strips into the glue. Alternate the colors – white, red, white, red – as you go across the edge.
Step 5: Dry and Display
Leave the craft flat on a table until the glue dries completely. Once the glue sets, you can tape your new flag to a window or hang it outside to watch the streamers catch the breeze.
