A spring craft project features blue crepe paper strips as water, a yellow handprint flower, a green stem, felt flowers, a paper watering can, and a tag reading Spring showers bring handprint flowers. Text reads FREE PRINTABLE!!!.

Spring is here, bringing warmer weather, bright green grass, and blooming gardens. It is the perfect time to celebrate the changing season with a fun, hands-on activity. Kids love seeing how things grow, and this crepe paper watering can craft captures that magic perfectly.

This simple project pairs a cute watering can with blue crepe paper “water” and a cheerful handprint flower. It is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon at home or in the classroom. Plus, it gives you an adorable keepsake to hang on the fridge. Let us gather our supplies and get crafting!

Craft Supplies:

To make this spring craft, you will need a few basic supplies you likely already have on hand:

  • Watering Can Printable – from our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Choice of Color Cardstock Paper
  • Extra Large White Construction Paper
  • Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
  • Crepe Paper {two shades of blue}
  • Craft Scissors
  • Glue Stick

Directions:

Set up a crafting area where kids can work comfortably. Cover the table with a plastic tablecloth or kraft paper to keep things mess-free. Encourage your little artists to wear an apron or an old t-shirt to protect their clothes.

  • First things first, grab the free “watering can” file (listed above in the supply list) and print it out on white cardstock paper.
  • Use your crayons to color in the watering can design.
  • Now, trim it out with scissors, along with the text box. Set the pieces aside for now.
  • Next, grab your large sheet of white construction paper, along with the blue crepe paper and school glue.
  • Help kids cut or tear the blue crepe paper into several long strips – these will act as the water pouring from the can.
  • Attach the blue crepe paper strips to the paper, letting them trail down diagonally across the page.
  • After placing the crepe paper, help kids glue the watering can cutout so it looks like the “water” is flowing from the watering can spout.
  • Now for the flower! Trace and cut out a single handprint shape from the remaining cardstock paper.
  • Glue it to the bottom of the paper, then draw on a quick stem and leaf design underneath the handprint.
  • To finish the Crepe Paper Watering Can Activity, have kids add the wording and any other embellishments they see fit. Allow them to really give it their own personal spin!
  • Then display your Crepe Paper Paint Brush and Handprint Flower Craft proudly for ALL to see!!

Stacey’s Tips for a Better Experience:

  • Set up a dedicated crafting area with a wipeable tablecloth for easy cleanup.
  • Keep wet wipes or a damp cloth nearby for sticky fingers and quick tidying.
  • Play some cheerful music or a springtime playlist to set a fun mood.
  • Let kids choose their own materials and decorations to boost their confidence and creativity.
  • Take photos of the finished project for a spring memory book or to share with loved ones.
  • Celebrate each creation – there is no right or wrong way to craft!

Encourage kids to make this craft entirely their own! Here are a few ways to add extra flair:

  • Mix up the colors: Let kids choose bright pink, purple, or orange for their handprint flowers.
  • Use real textures: Glue small felt flowers around the bottom edge of the paper to create a full garden scene.
  • Decorate the watering can: Give kids markers, gem stickers, or foil stars to decorate their gray watering cans before they glue them down.

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
