Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, this activity is sure to provide hours of entertainment while also fostering creativity and fine motor skills in children. In this post, you’ll find everything you need to know to get started, including materials, step-by-step instructions, and tips to make the experience even more enjoyable.

Popsicle Stick & Torn Paper Caramel Apple Craft Idea

Caramel apples are a quintessential fall treat, conjuring images of autumn fairs and Halloween festivities. This craft captures the essence of candy apples without the sticky mess, making it perfect for decorating your home or classroom.

Craft Supplies:

Before jumping into the crafting fun, let’s get all the materials ready. Having everything set up makes the process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 10 per candy apple craft
  • Hot Glue Gun {adults only!}
  • School Glue
  • Red Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Paper Plate
  • Scissors
  • Brown Construction Paper
  • Wiggle Eye Stickers
  • Embellishments

This list covers the basics, but feel free to get creative and add other elements that you think might enhance the project.

Directions:

Creating a designated crafting space helps keep the activity organized and minimizes mess. A kitchen table or any flat surface covered with newspaper or a plastic tablecloth works well.

Ensure that the area is well-lit and that you have easy access to all your materials. Place everything within reach so kids can grab what they need without causing disruption.

  • First things first {and I highly suggest doing this step BEFORE kids get involved} Start off by first hot gluing together NINE of the TEN popsicle sticks, into a square shape. You will want to lay SEVEN next to each other and then TWO across like a fence.
  • Once you have the square shape, go ahead and hot glue the remaining jumbo popsicle stick {the stick for the caramel apple} to the back of the square design.
  • When the wood shape is dry enough, you are ready for paint.
  • Go ahead and squirt a small amount of red craft paint on the paper plate.
  • Have kids use a paint brush to paint their popsicle stick apple shape {only the square portion} completely red.
  • When done painting, hand over the brown construction paper and some school glue.
  • Have kids tear their “caramel” pieces from the brown construction paper.
  • Help them glue it to the painted shape, but only covering about half of it.
  • To finish off your Popsicle Stick Caramel Apple – allow kids to add some “sprinkle” rhinestones/stickers and add on the wiggle eyes to the front.
  • Then display their creative craft stick candy apple shaped piece proudly for all to see!
