Fall is a magical time for kids. The leaves change color, the air feels crisp, and there’s a world of creative opportunities waiting to be explored.
One such delightful activity is creating our “paper bag squirrel” craft idea. This simple yet charming project not only keeps little hands busy but also teaches valuable skills and encourages imaginative play. Plus you can pair it with some story time fun as well!
In this blog post, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to make an adorable paper bag squirrel with your children this fall. From gathering the materials to step-by-step instructions and fun variations, we’ve got it all covered. Let’s jump in and start crafting!
Craft Supplies:
- White Cardstock Paper
- Squirrel Printable – on our landing page
- Brown Crayons
- Googly Eyes – two per craft
- Scissors
- School Glue or Glue Stick
- Brown Paper Bag
- Brown Cardstock Paper
- optional – decorative leaves
Directions:
- First things first – download and print out the provided squirrel printable, on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need ONE print per craft.
- Now go ahead and color in one of the head & tail shapes in the print out.
- At this point in time you can also glue on the two googly eyes as well.
- When done, trim it out and discard excess paper.
- Set aside for now.
- Next up – lay your brown paper bag on a flat surface with the flap of the bag facing upwards.
- Glue on the head and tail cutouts.
- Finally, the last step is to trace/cut out TWO handprint cutouts from your light brown cardstock paper and adhere them to the “body” of the paper bag.
- If tying this craft with the “Leaf Thief” book for story time, have kids add a decorative leaf in between the handprint cutout.
- And that’s it! Let it dry completely in an undisturbed area.
- Then display your awesome lunch sack squirrel craft piece proudly for all to see or use it as a puppet!
