Paper Plate & Cupcake Liner Lion Craft

Crafting with kids is more than just a fun pastime—it’s a way to cultivate imagination, fine motor skills, and the joy of artistic expression.

Today, we’re excited to share an adorable and simple craft project that’s perfect for animal enthusiasts and budding artists alike: the paper plate and cupcake liner lion!

Whether it’s a rainy day activity or part of a wildlife-themed educational program, this cupcake liner lion craft idea is sure to be a roaring success. So gather your little ones around the table, and let’s create a mini safari adventure right at home!

Paper Plate & Cupcake Liner Lion Craft Idea For Kids -1

This adorable cupcake liner lion project is perfect for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and any young cub with a love for animals and art.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate – one per craft
  • Paint Crayons
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Heart Printable – on our landing page
  • MINI Orange, Cupcake Liners {about 20-30}
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Googly Eyes – two per craft

Directions:

  • First things first – use a yellow paint crayon to color in the center of the large paper plate. This will be the start of the lion’s face.
  • Go ahead and also use a black paint crayon to draw on his nose and smile.
  • Set aside the decorated paper plate for now.
  • Next up – grab your printable and an orange paint crayon.
  • Color in ALL the heart designs in the printable.
  • When done coloring, trim them out afterwards and discard excess paper.
  • Now grab your mini ORANGE cupcake liners, your stapler and the scissors.
  • For each heart cutout, you are going to want TWO mini cupcake liners.
  • Flatten each set out with your hands and stack them on top of each other.
  • Use the stapler to secure them together in the center, along with a heart cutout on top.
  • If desired, use the scissors to create a slight fringe around the edge of each. Use your fingers to slightly fluff them up.
  • Once you have all your stacks completed, staple each one to the rim of the paper plate. This will create the lion’s mane.
  • Once the plate is completely covered and there are no blank spaces left, glue on the two wiggle eyes so he can see.
  • Then display your beautiful paper plate lion in your home proudly for ALL to see!

Prepare your creative haven by laying down a protective cover before the crafting magic begins!
