Get the kids excited for back to school with this fun apple craft! Make a lasting keepsake and watch your little ones’ faces light up as they show off their creative handprint apple canvas!
Canvas Supplies:
- Large Blank Canvas
- Red Craft Paint
- Green Craft Paint
- Brown Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Large Letter Stickers
- Mod Podge
- Small Paper Plate
- Baby Wipes
Directions:
- First you will want to paint a large red apple in the center of the canvas. You can either free-style this {like we did} or use a stencil if you have one. You will want your apple to be slightly larger than your child’s hand.
- Next is the handprint for the “leaf” of the apple. To do this, simply paint your child’s right hand completely green and press it down on the canvas, near the top of the apple.
- Depending on where the handprint falls, you can easily paint in the thumb with brown paint for the stem OR paint one in, near it.
- Now are the stickers. Since this keepsake idea is centered around the back to school theme, I went ahead and put stickers around our finished apple design that said “First Day of School” along with the year we created it in. You can of course change that up to say your child’s name, school or any other event you have in mind.
- To seal the letters in on the canvas, I put a thin layer of Mod Podge on top with a paint brush.
- To finish it all off and give it some flair – I went ahead and added a pretty dot pattern around the edge. This was done by dipping the end of my paint brush in the leftover paint and then on the canvas. Repeat for all sides.
- Then let it all dry completely before displaying {or maybe gifting away} proudly!
