Handprint Fish I'm Hooked On Daddy - Father's Day Gift Idea

Crafting with your kids isn’t just a fun way to spend an afternoon — it’s also a fantastic opportunity to make everlasting memories and gifts that come from the heart.

On that note, we hope you encourage YOU to recreate our “Hooked On Daddy” craft tutorial with your little one today. It’s a perfect DIY gift that kids can make dad for Father’s Day!

Craft Supplies:

  • Blank Canvas
  • Various Craft Paints
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Craft Paint Brushes
  • Small ABC Stickers
  • Baby Wipes

Directions:

  • First, using your blue paint, you will want to paint “waves” on the canvas.
  • Then using some green paint, add some squiggles for sea-weed on the bottom of your canvas.
  • And here comes the fun part! Your child’s hand-print will be turned into the fish. Because this is a “one shot” type thing, explain to your child what they need to do & do a few test runs on plain paper. Also make sure you have an idea of where you want your fish to be.
  • Once you are sure, just paint your child’s hand with the orange paint and press down on the canvas.
  • Grab a baby wipe and wipe their hands clean.
  • Now you are ready to give the fish life. Using the red paint, I painted a heart for the lips on our fish. I also gave it the power to see, by drawing a green dot for the eye.
  • Then using my black paint, I painted a hook near the fish’s mouth.
  • Let dry completely before adding stickers.
  • The phrase we added to our canvas was “I’m Hooked on Daddy.” But you could also use something like “You are a great catch!” Or “I “fish” you a Happy Father’s Day!”
  • Don’t forget to add your child’s name & year in the corner of the canvas {or on the back} so you can remember when it was created.
  • And you are done. If you want to make sure the stickers don’t come off, paint some Modge Podge over the entire canvas to seal everything in.
  • Then let it all dry completely and get ready to WOW the lucky receiver!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
