Potato Masher Stamped Reindeer Craft Idea

Two reindeer faces made from textured gold paint circles on blue paper, with googly eyes, red paper noses, and antlers drawn in black. Surrounded by festive stickers, snowflakes, and a craft stamp.

Grab a simple kitchen tool and turn it into a magical holiday art project. This Potato Masher Stamped Reindeer craft is incredibly simple, making it perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and older kids alike.

You can set this activity up in just a few minutes. Watch your little ones have a blast creating their own adorable, textured reindeer characters.

The best part about this craft is the unique waffle-print texture the potato masher leaves behind. It adds a fun sensory element to painting and keeps the mess relatively contained.

Materials You Will Need

  • Round potato masher (a waffle-grid pattern works best)
  • Gold or brown washable craft paint
  • Paper plate
  • Construction paper (any color!)
  • Googly eyes
  • Red construction paper
  • Black marker
  • Glue stick

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prep the paint station
Squeeze a generous amount of gold or brown paint onto a paper plate. Ensure the puddle of paint is wider than the base of your potato masher.

2. Stamp the reindeer heads
Have your child dip the flat end of the potato masher into the paint. Make sure the grid is evenly coated. Press the masher firmly onto the blue construction paper to create a textured, round reindeer head. Lift the masher straight up to avoid smudging. Repeat this step if you want to make a whole herd of reindeer on one page.

3. Draw the antlers
Wait a few minutes for the paint to dry. Grab your black marker and draw simple antlers branching out from the top of each stamped circle. A basic “Y” shape works great for younger kids.

4. Add the faces
Use your glue stick to attach two googly eyes onto each reindeer head. Next, cut out large red circles from your red construction paper. Glue one red circle at the bottom of each stamped face to create a bright, festive nose.

5. Decorate the scene
Let the kids customize their artwork with holiday stickers. Add snowflakes, Christmas trees, candy canes, or stars around the reindeer to complete the wintery background.

Set the masterpiece aside to dry completely before displaying it on the fridge or gifting it to family members.

A brown paper features three reindeer faces made from circular brown potato masher stamped craft prints, with googly eyes and red noses. Black lines form antlers. Snowflake decorations, a glue stick, and a black marker surround the paper. Two reindeer faces, created with a potato masher stamped craft technique using brown paint circles, feature big googly eyes, red glitter noses, and black marker antlers on a brown sheet with patterned paper underneath.

Not only does this craft spark creativity and laughter, but it also creates treasured memories you and your kids will cherish. Encourage your little artists to share their festive reindeer with friends, grandparents, or teachers – spreading holiday cheer one adorable creation at a time!
