Are you looking for a simple, fun craft to keep kids busy? This fork painted black cat is the perfect project for Valentine’s Day or any creative afternoon. The secret ingredient is a plastic fork, which makes painting extra exciting and gives the cat a fluffy, textured look. Easy to make and great for fine motor skills, this craft is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages!
Supplies You Will Need
Most of these items are probably already in your craft stash. Here’s what you need:
- Black Washable Craft Paint: For the cat’s fur.
- Plastic Fork: Our special painting tool.
- Cardstock Paper: We used pink for a Valentine’s Day vibe, but any color will do. Try white or red, or add a background sheet.
- Black Cardstock: For the ears and tail.
- Wiggle Eyes: Large ones are especially fun!
- Pink Cardstock or Foam: To make a heart-shaped nose.
- School Glue: Glue stick or liquid glue both work.
- Scissors: For cutting out the paper shapes.
- Newspaper or Tablecloth: To keep your workspace clean.
How To Make It:
Step 1: Prep the “Fur”
- Squeeze black craft paint onto a paper plate or scrap paper. Dip the back of your plastic fork’s tines into the wet paint.
Step 2: Paint the Body
- On your sheet of pink cardstock, use the fork to stamp and drag black paint in the center. Continue dipping and stamping in a circular or oval shape until you have a fluffy black cat body.
- No need to be neat – the messier the fork strokes, the fluffier the cat will look! Let the paint dry completely before moving to the next step.
Step 3: Cut Out Details
- While the paint dries, cut two triangles from the black cardstock for ears and a long, curvy shape for the tail.
- Next, from pink cardstock or foam, cut a small heart shape for the cat’s nose – this gives your craft a cute Valentine’s theme.
Step 4: Assemble Your Cat
- Once the paint is dry, glue the black ears to the top of your painted area and the tail to the side or bottom.
- Add the wiggle eyes and the pink heart nose in the center of the face.
