Combining reading time with hands-on activities brings stories to life for children. This simple cardboard and crepe paper pizza craft pairs perfectly with popular books like “Pete the Cat and the Perfect Pizza Party” and “Secret Pizza Party.”

It provides a wonderful opportunity for kids to develop fine motor skills while creating their favorite food. You can easily set up this activity at home or in the classroom using basic supplies you likely already have.

Materials You Will Need

To get started on your pizza creation, gather these simple supplies:

  • A sturdy piece of brown cardboard
  • Yellow crepe paper or tissue paper
  • Red circle stickers
  • Liquid school glue (washable works best)
  • Scissors

Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these easy steps to build your custom pizza craft:

1. Prepare the Crust
First, grab your cardboard and cut out a large circle. This serves as the crust and the base for your craft. You can make one large pizza to share or smaller circles for personal pan pizzas.

2. Shred the Cheese
Hand the yellow crepe paper to your kids and let them tear it into small, irregular pieces. Tearing paper acts as an excellent exercise for little hands and helps build essential fine motor skills.

3. Spread the Sauce (Glue)
Help your child apply a generous layer of school glue all over the cardboard circle. You can squeeze it directly from the bottle or use a brush to spread it evenly across the surface.

4. Add the Cheese
Now comes the fun part. Instruct your child to sprinkle and press the torn yellow crepe paper pieces onto the glue. Encourage them to cover as much of the brown cardboard as they want.

5. Place the Pepperoni
Once you apply the cheese, it is time for the toppings. Give your child the red circle stickers and let them peel and stick the “pepperoni” all over their pizza.

6. Let it Dry
Set the finished masterpiece aside on a flat surface. Allow the glue to dry completely before you hang it up or use it for pretend play.
