Craft Supplies:
- White construction paper
- White cardstock paper
- Our free printable poem tag – on box.com – password is GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS2026
- Pencil
- Clear contact paper
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Baker’s twine
- Dark gray or black paper for the top hats
- Markers
- Glue stick
Directions:
1. Make the Handprint
Place your child’s hand flat on white cardstock with the fingers spread slightly apart. Trace around it with a pencil.
2. Cut Out the Handprint
Carefully cut along the outline. Little ones can help with the palm, while a grown-up handles the tricky spaces between the fingers.
3. Add the Top Hats
Cut five small top hats from dark gray or black paper. Each hat needs a tall rectangle on top of a thin, wider brim.
Glue one hat to the tip of each finger. Size them to the finger: a smaller hat for the pinky and a slightly bigger one for the thumb.
4. Draw the Snowman Faces & Scarves
Using a black fine-tip marker, add two dot eyes and a curved smile made of tiny dots. Then draw a small orange triangle nose pointing to the side, just like a carrot. Finish off with a scarf under each face design.
5. Prepare the Poem Tag
Print our free poem printable and cut out one of the tag designs. Glue it onto a slightly larger piece of light blue paper to create a pretty frame.
Have your child sign their name on the “Love, ______” line. Then add the year on the back or below the name. You’ll be so glad you did when you unpack this ornament in ten years!
6. Laminate with Clear Contact Paper
Cut two pieces of clear contact paper, each about an inch larger than your ornament on all sides.
- Peel the backing off one piece and lay it sticky side up on the table.
- Place your handprint design face down onto the sticky surface.
- Peel the second piece and press it gently over the back.
- Smooth from the center outward to push out any air bubbles.
7. Trim Around the Edges
Cut around the handprint, leaving about a ¼-inch clear border. That border keeps the seal tight and helps the ornament last for years.
8. Punch a Hole and Add the Twine
Punch a hole in the clear border above the middle finger, close to the center top. Be sure to punch through the plastic only, not the paper, so the seal stays intact.
Thread a piece of red-and-white baker’s twine through the hole. Tie the ends in a knot to make a loop, and your ornament is ready to hang!
