A Thanksgiving turkey craft on an orange plate, made from a handprint, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, foam leaves, and glue. A bottle of Elmers School Glue and fall leaves are in the background. @GLUEDTOMYCRAFTS watermark appears.

The turkey is gone, the leftovers have vanished, and the twinkling lights of the winter holidays feel just a little too far away. Welcome to the in-between weeks, that quiet, chilly stretch when the days are short, the couch is calling, and the kids are already asking, “What can we do now?”

If you live somewhere the frost creeps in early, you know this season well. It’s cold outside, cozy inside, and the perfect excuse to spread some supplies across the kitchen table and make something together. That’s exactly where this Paper Plate Turkey Snow Globe comes in.

Think of it as a sweet mashup of two seasons in one. We’re taking a classic handprint turkey and giving it a wintry makeover, tucking it inside a orange pumpkin snow globe made from a humble paper plate. Fluffy cotton ball snow, a sprinkle of glitter, shiny sequins, and a curly pipe cleaner vine turn a simple fall craft into something that feels warm, festive, and just right for these snowy in-between days.

Best of all, you probably have most of what you need already sitting in your craft bin. So grab your little ones, put the kettle on, and let’s make a paper plate pumpkin snow globe keepsake you’ll want to display long after the snow melts.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large, Orange Paper Plate {1 per craft}
  • Purple Craft Paint
  • Cardstock Paper {brown, yellow, red}
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Green Pipe Cleaner
  • School Glue
  • Glitter Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Cotton Balls
  • Stapler
  • Fall Stickers/Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

  1. Lay your child’s hand flat on a piece of brown cardstock and trace around it with a pencil. Little hands wiggle, so hold gently and go slow. Then carefully cut out the handprint. This little shape becomes your turkey, with the four fingers as feathers and the thumb as the head.
  2. Time to sparkle! Draw vertical lines of orange glitter glue down each finger. While the glue is still wet, sprinkle loose craft glitter on top.
  3. The thumb is the turkey’s head. Glue on one googly eye near the tip. Cut a small yellow triangle for the beak and a little red teardrop for the wattle, then glue them just below the eye. Suddenly, your handprint has personality!
  4. Cut a small rectangle of brown cardstock and staple it to the top rim of the orange plate to make a stem. Next, wrap a green pipe cleaner around your finger to create a curly coil, then tuck and twist it in beside the stem for a playful vine.
  5. Spread a little white glue on the back of your handprint turkey and press it firmly into the center of the orange plate. Hold it down for a few seconds to help it stick.
  6. Glue a row of fluffy cotton balls along the bottom inside rim of the plate. This soft, snowy border is where the magic happens. Once they’re in place, dot on your autumn stickers – pumpkins, acorns, and leaves peeking out of the fluff.
  7. Cut a large trapezoid from brown cardstock, wider at the bottom than the top. Staple it to the very bottom of the plate so it flares outward like a base.
  8. Now your pumpkin shaped Thanksgiving snow globe can stand tall and proud on any shelf or windowsill.
